對此導演Niki Caro也表示：「為了《花木蘭》的拍攝，我們在全球試鏡了上千名女演員，真的非常感謝每一位前來試鏡的演員。因為看到了你們對這個角色的熱情，才讓我我更了解到《花木蘭》這個角色有多麼重要、多麼受到大量女性們熱愛。」
隨後Niki Caro也放出一段從千名女星中脫穎而出的劉亦菲試鏡畫面，並表示畫面中的劉亦菲雖然前一天才從北京抵達美國，更因為時差的關係而完全沒有睡覺，「這是我第一次跟見到劉亦菲本人，當天除了長達兩個小時的試鏡之外，她又接著參加90 分鐘的體能訓練！」
但當天對於劇組的要求，劉亦菲不但完全沒有喊累或是要求邀休息，反而更是拿出超專業的態度與表現，因此也讓Niki Caro意識到自己終於找到想要合作的夥伴！
看到劉亦菲如此敬業精神，Niki Caro也表示：「我們真的很喜歡劉亦菲，即便為了配合她的檔期讓我們延遲了6個月才開機拍攝，但這也是我們做過最好的決定！」

She had traveled from Beijing the day before, and had not slept due to the punishing jet lag between China and US time zones. We needed to see her do four scenes, one of which had five pages of dialogue. All in her second language. The audition took 2 hours, and then she went for a physical training session for another 90 mins. She was deeply exhausted, but never asked for a break, was totally focused, committed, and consistently brilliant. I saw the depth of her talent, her physical strength, her artistry and her undeniable spirit. I knew I’d found a partner, a collaborator, and a warrior. 如今《花木蘭》確定7月在美國的暑假檔期上映，台灣勢必也會跟著一起上檔播映！不知道大家看了劉亦菲如此努力爭取角色的影片後，是否也相當好奇她在劇中究竟會有什麼樣驚人的表現呢？
